Description

Crocking is the undesirable property of a dyed cloth by which the coloring matter rubs off the fabric and smudges or soils other materials with which it comes into contact. This fault is usually traceable to imperfect dyeing, either in regard to the method employed or the inadaptability of the dyestuff. The crockmeter machine provides a reciprocating rubbing motion simulating the action of a human finger and forearm. The crockmeter is designed so that the 16 ± 0.3 mm diameter crock finger tip moves back and forth with each complete turn of the crank, in a straight line along a 104 ± 3 mm track on the specimen. The arm and finger have a downward force of 9 ± 0.9 Newtons (2 ± 0.2 lb). For manual crockmeters beginning with the finger positioned at the front end, turn the handle ten complete turns, at one turn per second, to slide the finger back ten times, and forth ten times.
